Personal Anecdote Blog from FemaleSatan's blog

I was walking down the street one day and heard two guys called me some shitty ass names. I froze, my scared little bunny came out.

But they pulled into a subway real close by, maybe a hundred feet. I stood there and it hit me. Who are you really? Are you the kind of person that takes that? Are you going to take this? What are you going to do? Just walk off or stand up for yourself? How many times does someone say something like that and then pull into a place that close to you?

This was followed by going to worst case scenario in my mind. Will they beat me up? Maybe they'll shoot me if I confront them. What's the worst that could happen (answer everybody dies, every time)?

Go for it. Face it and see what happens, actually stand up for yourself.

So I walked up and wrote down their license plate number. Walked in the Subway.

I screamed, "Hey what you said to me isn't fucking cool! You need to apologize to me! I am a person!"

Everyone jumped including the sandwich artist. The turned around. Now at this point they were pretty fucking scary in my mind. What they really were was something else entirely. They were both teenagers, one of them was in a Cub Scout uniform, LOL.

They both started hurriedly apologizing. I told them I wasn't going to call the cops and left.

Now, I know this is a little silly but it wasn't to me. It was a defining moment in my life, a moment that I practically applied this shit I talk about. I stood up and I said something. I proved to me I was the kind of person that says something when I get fucked with like that.

Sometimes its the little battles which carry the heaviest burdens, and fears. You feared your death, but you feared being a coward even more and ultimately your reward was justification and confidence which cannot be bought at any price. But if you see a gang and they make a comment pick and choose your battles.Sometimes its the little battles which carry the heaviest burdens, and fears. I generally would just smirk. It often bothers the person making the derogatory comment more. Bemusement is often a natural reaction for me.

I too had a moment of courage once. A drunk guy patted me on the buttocks and I kicked him. And no, he didn't beat me up. But he had his little revenge. Later, he pissed on my doormat. ;)

Ah yes, I am no stranger to drive by insults. It use to be a fairly common occurance here in small city Texas. When I was younger I always responded and honestly the cause and effect never dawned on me until afterwards. Once as a teenager I was walking and holding hands with a boyfriend on our way to a local I-HOP after we left our restuarant jobs in the early morning hours, I should preface this by saying we both had mohawks, when a truck drove by and some man yelled "faggots". With out thinking, I screamed back, "Hey, I'm a girl!" This made my boyfriend a little nervous, especially after they drove back around. I still maintain that it was more humorous than anything, but later it did strike me as a pick your battles type moment. Nice blog, FS. It takes me back.Ah yes, I am no stranger to drive by insults. I usually don't respond to insults from strangers, especially drunk guys. I wouldn't even call it insults, just teasing or poor jokes. It's a waste of my time and energy. And I don't want them to pee on my doormat. ;)

But really, if you want to insult me, I must respect you first. Then I can give a fuck about your opinion of me. If I don't have any respect for you, I will just ignore you.

Some folks simply desire attention. If they see their jokes or insults disturb you, make you angry, they feel pleased. It is just another entertainment for them.

Czereda makes a good point with “But really, if you want to insult me, I must respect you first”. If a person I don't know or even respect insults me it comes from a nobody and most of the time means nothing.

My 13year old has learnt the trick of backfiring many insults. As I said to her, the person using the insult is after a reaction, so not giving a reaction or one the person was not expecting can have amusing results. There are times when a reply is warranted to address a line crossed or a simple excuse to blow off steam but pick them wisely.
