"I thought that I was right up to the limit of what American television would tolerate. As I was making the film I kept checking to make sure that I wasn't going over the line, but I evidently misestimated."

I watched it for the first time in a 13 film Masters of Horror boxed set.  I had no idea it wasn't aired on television until much later.  It was my favorite among all of the films in the set, Miike has a keen eye for torment and suffering at the hands of others.

The torture scene taps a vein.  Either you endure it or look away.

What was most amusing to be about the 'disturbance' about Imprint was the fact that it seemed that neither Showtime executives or Mick Garris were very familiar with Miike's work; otherwise they would have realized that the style of violence in his episode is Miike's modus operandi.

I know, he was rather diligent in checking with American styling otherwise it would have been much more graphic.
